Karyn Thompson is a licensed clinical health psychologist living in the Philadelphia area. Like a normal stick deodorant, it can be prone to get white marks on dark clothing. If someone is just looking for an oil in general, safflower oil is fairly odorless. But there are a few spray recipes out there that use magnesium oil or witch hazel. Pour the grits mixture into a shallow baking dish to a thickness of about 3/4 inch. Oil produced by the sebaceous glands (scalp, face, and chest) has a light odor with or without bacteria.

Tips: When I have extra deodorant I simply pour it out onto parchment paper and either apply it with my fingers or reheat it with my next batch because I don't like to waste anything Wipe out your bowl with a paper towel (this is one of the only times I use paper towels).

For many years, I was hesitant to stray away from commercial deodorant (think: Dove and Secret). You will find you can even skip a day of using the deodorant stone without ill effects. Warning: When mineral clay comes in contact with metal, it loses its effectiveness, so use only non-metal utensils when working with these clays. Since the homemade lotion bars , sunscreen bars , and deodorant bars all use many of the same ingredients, you can order these in bulk from Mountain Rose Herbs or find them locally and save a lot of money on your family's personal care products. For the powder I combine cornstarch, baking soda (the amount depends on skin sensitivity) and any essential oil.

This is a post in reference to several questions: 1. to make it harder increase your percentage of wax; 2. Candelilia wax can be substituted for beeswax at 1/2 the amount, it is much harder than beeswax; could skip the coconut oil and increase the amount of either cocoa butter or shea butter so that you still have the same amount of oils/butters.

Zinc oxide alone in a deodorant works fairly well which I found out by accident one day when I applied a homemade sunscreen (post idea?) to my red, irritated armpits when I had no other creams or lotions on hand. I used arrowroot powder because I had some on hand that had been in the cupboard a while, and 5 tablespoons of refined coconut oil. Deodorant is an odd thing to rave about, but I have been telling every healthy" person that I know about this stuff! Its also REALLY helpful if you plan to use an empty deodorant container, because it will keep it solid in the tube and will apply more easily. And it's healthier than antiperspirant or even the average store-bought deodorant.

I use baking soda for many of my DIY recipes, but I think it may be too harsh for the underarms. Natural deodorant is the best option that one can walk with which is less costly and free from harmful elements used as ingredient in its production. I melt the coconut oil in the microwave until it's a liquid and add the corn starch and baking soda 6:1 ratio to the melted oil. First take your coconut oil, beeswax pellets and either cocoa butter or shea butter and heat them up. Use an old sauce pan or a glass pyrex cup over simmering water, and heat until the ingredients start to melt together. Found this blog after researching my horrible burn from Tom's of Maine deodorant.

I'm sure no one else has ever experienced forgetting deodorant in AM, but I'm here to let you know that after the funk starts, deodorant will not end it. This homemade deodorant, however, totally freshened me up until I was able to do so appropriately!

It is recommended to use a high quality coconut oil purchased from a health food store, if possible. Some alternatives would be to decrease the amount of baking soda while increasing the clay powder to make up the difference. You can make your own magnesium oil by combining 1 cup magnesium flakes with 1 cup filtered water. I don't mind the regular homemade versions i put on with my fingers and they last more than a day. I was wondering how I might go about removing or substituting the beeswax for something vegan. Any deodorant with strong fragrance should be avoided as the scent may include perfumes which could irritate and inflame the psoriasis of the underarm. I think that really it just stems from the fact that my body isn't trying to ‘sweat out' the chemicals from conventional deodorant anymore. Melt coconut oil and beeswax together in a small saucepan over low heat. Stir occasionally. Mine does the same thing, I think it's actually the cocoa butter (if you used that).

I've made this homemade deodorant and have been using it for about four days I smell my arm pits all day just to make sure its working, and it actually works better than my regular deodorant, no sweating, the only thing that I have noticed is a little itchiness and by the end of the day an odd smell, I thinking from the baking soda and my body chemicals.
